Poor Little Ava

On Saturday, Ava broke her collar bone at the park. I felt so bad, I turned my back for a second and she darted in front of the swings with a bigger kid swinging and clocked her right in the head! I had no idea how hard of a force that could possibly be. The little girl hit her in the head so hard with her knee that it flipped her up into the air and she landed on her side! At the time I was more worried about a concussion, and of course she was crying uncontrollably! This was around 12:30 pm and when she got home she wouldn't eat lunch , but was still crying and we just gave her some Tylenol and let her sleep! When she woke up she would cry when you picked her up or touched her shoulder and she was favoring her right arm. Hartman and I both knew she was hurt and he said let's take her to the E.R. We got to the er at 9:00 pm and didn't get home until 3:30 am. My poor little baby was hysterical when they took the x-rays and when we saw the xrays come up with both knew it was broken. It's so sad and I felt so horrible! They gave her pain medicine which finally put her to sleep and wrapped her with a sling and bandage for 6-8 weeks. Obviously they can't cast it, but she needs to keep her arm still for it to fuse back probably! I am so worried and stressed because she is so little and keep sticking her arm out of the sling and won't keep it still. It's so hard. We are going to a pediatric specialist this week and we hope they will have a better sling/contraption suitable for a 20 month old! I have a feeling it will be a long couple of weeks ahead! The saddest thing is she doesn't understand why she's all wrapped d up! Hopefully she'll get used to it soon!Right after they put the sling on, she was already knocked out! This was around 3am
She finally gave in to the pain medicine and fell asleep! What a long night!
The next morning trying to get used to this thing!
Wanting to paint like her sisters, but getting a little frustrated! I'm actually surprised at how much she's trying with her left hand!

Ohhhh, that is SO sad Emily! I'm so sorry, poor Ava. She's such a tiny little thing ... it's just heartbreaking to see and hear this! Please let us know if there's anything we can do to help.

Oh, I'm so sorry! Poor thing. I broke mine when I was 5, I hated that sling. But I bet it's worse for little Ava! It's scary to know how easily that bone can be broken. Hope it heals fast.
